Microsoft loses 1.7 billion with Surface

The analysis was done by Greg Keizer, Computerworld, based on data revealed by Microsoft itself. The company has publicly disclosed the recipes with the Surface line, but in the past two quarters has not revealed the associated costs for these recipes.

In this paragraph are accounted for production costs, the cost of sending Surface to the market before the release and other associated expenses.

In fiscal year 2013, Microsoft will have a cost of 1.9 billion dollars and revenue of 853 million dollars. This year, the losses are by 676 million dollars, which allows asserting that, since last year, the Surface line cost 1.7 billion, reports the GigaOm.

It is recalled that the Xbox has losses for three years until Microsoft have begun to cash in on the consoles. The company is expected to adopt the same behavior for this bet in tablets.
